The Replacement

Block Party

School Chum

With the events in Lake Pruitt behind them, it's been three long, boring months since Dan and Red's return to Key West. But that all changes when a double-homicide hits close to home and plunges the amateur crime solving duo into another action-packed mystery. With Skip still in Georgia with his brother Sam, Dan and Red will have to go it alone. Or will they?

In The Replacement, the twenty-second installment in the Tales of Dan Coast Series, we also see the arrival of Jackson Barbosa's replacement, Officer Rowan Remsen. Will Remsen turn out to be an ally, or another thorn in the boy's sides. That question

gets answered on day one.

Beach View Street's block party is rapidly approaching, and Dan Coast doesn't have enough hours in his day to get everything done that needs to be done. Cat Man's parents are missing and so is his minivan. Luckily, the minivan is returned. Unluckily, there was something left inside. Gene and Peg Coast are back in town. They wouldn't miss the block party for the world. Of course, they've rented their house to tourists, so they'll be staying with Dan and Maxine.

Block Party, the twenty-third book in the Dan Coast Series, also finds Dan and Red investigating a murder that took place in the late-seventies. They soon discover how difficult that is when the convicted killer and the only witness died long ago.

A young woman is kidnapped … but is it real, or just for social media likes? Dan Coast doesn't really care. Neither does Red Baxter. But Dan's father, Gene, a man with daughters of his own, wants to know what happened. While humoring his father, Dan and the gang soon discover that the girl is missing.

In School Chum, the twenty-fourth book in the Tales of Dan Coast series, and the final book in the Block Party Trilogy, join Dan, Red, and Gene as they search for the missing young lady. And if that's not enough, Dan's old high school buddy, Duke Longstreet, has also gone missing.

Reviews For
This, That, and the Other Thing

Rodney is definitely one of my top five authors. The interaction between characters is always funny and just as real as I would be with my friends. Plots are unique and quirky. Love all the series.

I have read all ten books and enjoyed all equally. Can only say that I intend try other of Mr. Riesel's books and keep my fingers crossed in the hope that I will get as much pleasure from them.

A ne’er do well offspring inherits his parents’ home in a quiet neighborhood…but bad things keep happening and the same three sets of neighbors keep blaming the youngster - out of a total of ten households.

Then a series of robberies involving stolen cars; and an elderly woman claims her (deceased) husband was actually abducted by aliens and has been coming to visit her. But the truth ends up being deadly.

Good story line, twisty plot and Avis Lint just keeps getting funnier. Nice job RR and keep them coming please!

I love Rodney’s writing. His story telling is amazing, he’s finds ways to inject humor into every situation. But what always keeps me coming back is the way Rodney portrays relationships in his books. At the core of all of his series is deep friendships, and the great banter the characters have with their significant others. I think that’s a lot of it Rodney’s real life marriage, which his social media followers get a glimpse of. It really shines through in his writing, and I think it’s something most people can relate to.

This, That, and the Other Thing is just another in a long line of terrific Rodney Riesel stories. Start at the beginning, and read them all, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Constant Maintenance
Fernandina Beach Mystery Book 5

In this fifth installment of the Fernandina Beach Mystery Series, local maintenance man, and amateur sleuth, Rex Langley is called in to repair one of the apartments over Collins' Hardware, and quickly realizes, all may not be as it seems. The apartment, he was told, was damaged in a break-in.

Why would Roscoe Wade break into Darlene Sullivan's apartment? Rex wonders. The two had been neighbors for years.

Fernandina Beach Detective Calvin Rance, one of Mrs. Sullivan's former students, says, “It's an open and shut case. Roscoe broke in, not knowing Darlene was home. There was a struggle, and Roscoe, slipping on a puddle of water, falls and hits his head on the edge of the tub.”

As Rex digs deeper, a mysterious man, a telescope, and a long ago death forces him to bring his wife, Gayle Langley, a retired Navy Master-at-arms, into the investigation.

Reviews For Constant Maintenance

It was fun to get back together with Rex and the gang. This one entirely centers on the town of Fernandina Beach and you can practically feel the salt in the air and the sand on your feet. The town itself is practically a character.

Lots of twists and turns in the story and plenty of excitement in the final third. There is some good investigation here, as the plot unfolds through the characters' deductions and reasoning rather than random events. Plenty of wisecracks as well, and the supporting cast of characters sparkles. Hope the author will give us a sixth adventure soon!

I love a Rodney Riesel's books. I love a good mystery with a touch of unsophisticated humor and his books nail it each and every time. I love how characters from one series may be mentioned in another. This book does not disappoint. Rex is a handyman that sticks his nose in an investigation that is closed involving a retired school teacher. It is actually quite sweet at the end with the revelation of her loss. I can't wait for the next one.
